An artist who rewrote his own materials

Stahl is known for transforming the overlooked. Tin cans, bottle caps, wire, screws, and small salvaged objects become framed wall pieces and freestanding sculptures that hum with compositional energy. His signature gesture is hot glue used not as adhesive but as line, gesture, and subject. The glue strings weave across each work like veins, webs, or synapses, giving his sculptures a distinctly organic presence that rewards close inspection. Working from his studio at Division Street in downtown New Rochelle, Stahl has built a body of work that sits confidently between sculpture, assemblage, and drawing in three dimensions.

What the retrospective reveals
